Be Ready For Winter Weather
With winter weather and freezing temperatures forecasted in parts of the country this weekend, we wanted to share a quick reminder you can pass along to your insureds to help them prepare and know what to do if damage occurs.
Even brief hard freezes can lead to burst pipes, water damage, and power disruptions. Encouraging a few proactive steps now can help reduce potential losses.
Helpful reminders to share with insureds:
- Let faucets drip slightly to help prevent pipes from freezing
- Open cabinet doors to allow warm air to circulate around plumbing
- Disconnect outdoor hoses and cover exposed pipes
- Keep thermostats set to a consistent temperature, even overnight
- Stock essential supplies in case roads become difficult to travel
- If traveling, have someone check on the property
With freezing weather sometimes comes power outages. This can be a good opportunity to remind insureds to review whether they have Refrigerated Property coverage in place, which may help cover spoiled food due to a covered outage.
We hope it won’t happen, but if your customers do experience damage, they can easily report a claim online.

Encourage them to visit our claims center and learn about our customer claims portal, emergency response, and Direct Repair Network.
Claims can also be reported by calling 877.799.3389 x1, though we recommend using the web as the best option.
As always, we appreciate your partnership and are here to support you and your customers throughout any weather event. If you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected].
